Chatham County Lawyers

In 1770, the Colonial Assembly elected to create Chatham County out of part of Orange County in order to better serve residents in the southern part of the county who found it difficult to travel to Hillsborough, the county seat at the time, to conduct business and legal proceedings.

Thus, Chatham County, with its county seat in Pittsboro began operating as its own county in April of 1771. The county got its name from William Pitt, the First Earl of Chatham who served as British Prime Minister and expressed his desires that the colonies receive fair treatment.

Since its founding, Chatham County has been known for its agriculture, coal mining, raising livestock, and in recent years, industrial growth, especially in Moncure and Siler City.
